The technology powering the interactive layer of Livery was used by official FIFA eSports competitions to make its live streaming more fun and interactive. This personalized interactive layer was presented as an extension. The extension lets user play trivia, answer polls and predict the outcome of games. Available before, during and after the match, users with the highest scores would be shown on the leaderboard. As a reward, in-game drops were available. Viewers could also look up automated, real-time match, player and competitions stats.

Viewers can watch the F1 race in multiple ways, one of the options is F1TV. Besides some technical issues regarding the product, the F1TV team did an amazing job enriching the video with additional interactive features.  F1TV allows its viewers to switch cameras or watch multiple cameras at the same time. Player startup time and Syncing are key requirements to accommodate a feature like this.  An interactive layer on top of the video stream, allows viewers to pull up statistical data about the race in general or specific racers in the field.  The use of multiple audio tracks (languages) make the product accessible for a wide range of viewers located in multiple countries. Ali Gala Alibaba’s 11.11 (Global Shopping Festival)

Since 2009, Alibaba is monetizing the concept of an annual Shopping Festival. Over the years, it turned a 1-day festival for singles’s to buy something for themselves on Single’s Day (Nov 11) to an international shopping festival with a 3-day window. Each year, the event kicks off with the Ali Gala, featuring artists like Pharell, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift. In 2020, 11.11 broke all records with a Gross Merchandise Value (total turnover) of U$ 74B (yes: billions, that is!).

Key of “Double Eleven” is the combination of live entertainment (artist performances, fashion shows, games, etC) with interactivity, offering viewers a seamless entertainment experience with the option to buy the products featured in a show or endorsed by celebrities. 

Alibaba truly is one of the frontrunners if it comes to Interactive video. By adding e-commerce overlays on top of live streams, Alibaba enables consumers to buy products instantly. Innovation is a key driver in keeping the viewers surprised year on year: whether it’s about offering mini-games which can be played to earn discounts or the innovative user interfaces (scan a QR code, just shake with your phone and the product is ordered).

Live Legends

Long term Livery customer Live Legends participated in the Livery Interactive early access program. Based on the customer’s feedback the Livery team created a stats API, exposing interaction data in real time. This data is injected in real time into the virtual studio rendered using the Unreal Engine. 

The data generated by the viewers of the live stream had a direct impact on the visual appearances of the ultra-low latency live stream. For example fireworks are triggered in the video feed when more than 100 viewers voted YES.

Horecava Live tasting event

In 2021, Horecava – the largest Food & Beverage trade show in The Netherlands) launched the online Horecava Tastings: a live, interactive tasting experience with participants tasting real products from their tasting box (which participants ordered online and which was delivered to their homes). All boxes available were sold out in one day. 

During the online tasting event, a presenter guided participants through the product tasting and asked the viewers questions about these products. The audience also could rate all products and participate in a trivia quiz with prizes. All data was stored and was used afterwards to identify potential customers for the virtual exhibitors.

Dutch Dance Quiz

Creative agency First Day of Spring streamed 3 episodes of the Dutch Dance Quiz, a video event that took viewers on a trip down memory lane through the rich 30 years of Dutch dance music. The quiz could be watched at dutchdancequiz.nl and TV 538. Dance fans tested their knowledge by playing along via an interactive 2nd screen (mobile phone or tablet), to have a chance to win exclusive Dutch Dance prizes. A panel with dance industry legends like Dano, The Darkraver, Roog and Michel de Hey played along from the green room. Martin Garrix, Joris Voorn, Chuckie and Erick E popped questions to the viewers. 

Livery powered the video end-to-end, based on an on-premise encoder and a web player used on the DDQ website. The Lift Kvis game show is a perfect example of a full feedback loop, which is a powerful tool during live streams. The host asks the trivia question delivered by Livery’s Ultra Low Latency video and the viewers are able to directly answer the question.
